We sincerely invite you to the 2015 Kagyu Monlam with His Holiness Thaye Dorje, the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, from December 9 – 21, 2015 in Bodhgaya, India. In previous years, we sent out invitation letters to theevent, but we will no longer send them. In any case, we encourage you to attend this precious and important event!

Kagyu Monlam is an annual event in December of each year, when hundreds of enlightened masters, lamas, and lay disciples of the KarmaKagyu lineage gather to recite meritorious aspiration prayers for world peace. Since 1996, Thaye Dorje and the late 14th Shamarpa Mipham Chokyi Lodro have been leading the event under the shade of the great Bodhi Tree in Bodhgaya, where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. Theeffect of reciting an aspiration prayer a single time at this holy site, and inthe presence of great bodhisattvas, is more powerful than reciting it a million times on your own.

The Tibetan word Mon-lam can be translated “Path of Aspiration”. Although many aspiration prayers are recited during Kagyu Monlam, the main prayer is the “King of Aspiration Prayers” or “Samantabhadra’s Wishing Prayer”.The core of the King of Aspiration Prayers is a supremely altruistic wish that we attain enlightenment in order to lead all other beings to enlightenment. When participants recite the prayer in unison, its power is increased 100,000 times or more. This contributes to the well-being and spiritual development of all sentient beings in our world and helps them reach enlightenment.

At the 2015 Kagyu Monlam, we have a special program planned. Thaye Dorje will attend special pujas and the Lama Dance at Karma Temple (Beru Khyentse’s monastery in Bodhgaya) from December 9-12. Then from December 15-21, the group aspiration prayers will be held at the main Maha Bodhi Temple under the great Bodhi Tree. During the Kagyu Monlam event, Thaye Dorje will also give teachings on the King of Aspiration Prayers, hold a special puja for the deceased, and give a public empowerment for lay practitioners. You are most welcome to attend all events.

Kagyu Monlam is a very important event because it is the one time each year when Karmapa, high rinpoches of the Kagyu lineage, lamas and lay practitioners gather from all over the world as a united voice to meet, share, and practice together for the benefit of all sentient beings.

We sincerely hope you will join us this year. If you have any questions or would like to donate to support this important event, please send us a Facebook message.་

Sarva Mangalam! May all beings be happy!
